Caslavska - Tokyo - 1964 - Tickets

The production is not a historical reconstruction but rather a fictional story with fantastical, almost fairy-tale elements, inspired by certain real events. Beyond depicting the rise of (not only) the sports legend Věra Čáslavská, who captured the hearts of both the Czech and Japanese public in her time, the production explores something more. The cast is composed equally of Japanese and Czech puppeteers, allowing them to go beyond the story itself to discover what we have in common, how we differ, and what we can learn from each other. Audiences of all ages, from children to adults, can embark on this journey of discovery along with them.
The entire story, set against the backdrop of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, is guided by a pair of commentators - a Japanese and a Czech - who present it as if in a live television broadcast. They narrate, comment, and translate everything, making the story both accessible and slightly enigmatic for both Japanese and Czech audiences.
The production also blends various forms of puppetry, object theatre, shadow play, and projections.
